Bosch transforms businesses in the Immersive world

AR VR

The last 18 months have pushed the world to its edge in ways we never imagined. Virtual has become the new normal and its adoption has expanded to industries such as gaming, entertainment, healthcare, manufacturing, education, and more. As disruptive as the pandemic has been, it has presented newfound opportunities to the AR/VR industry.

.

Virtual has become the new normal. We don’t need to be in the same room anymore. Teams can succeed and be equally (well almost equally) productive while working from anywhere in the world. Enterprise communication tools are now integrated with AR/VR systems to enable startling transformation at the workplace, home, lab or even the shop floor.

Keeping pace with these changes Immersive technologies have truly moved from the status of ‘Emerging’ to ‘Mainstream’. These months in our shared history did not just increase the use of these technologies, they have changed how people use and perceive AR/VR/MR technologies and their use cases.

Conversations have changed. A couple of years ago we would have heard “Lets do AR/VR” or “Lets do a HoloLens project”. These were experiments, enterprises testing waters with “Hello World!” use cases. Now, the questions we get are “We need to help a field technician half way around the world, how do we do it” or “We need to train a few associates in our so and so plant” or “I need to see the machine data in real time” and we work closely with our customer to define the best solution – AR or VR or any other approaches which will give the best results.

For the first time, enterprises of all sizes are able to see ROI on their VR/AR investments and are discussing scale as opposed to a few years ago, when we battled adoption challenges due to legacy management methods.

With improvements in hardware technologies, we’re seeing 200$ smartphones fully capable of AR experiences and 300$ devices that can capture 3D & volumetric information. This is less than half of what it cost just a year ago.

With availability of remote rendering solutions we are able to now load and render assets afar 100 GB without having to worry about device limitations

We at RBEI have stayed fully abreast with the latest hardware available out there. Our XR strategy aims at giving the best fit solution to our customers rather than tight coupling with one single technology. Whether its HoloLens2, Quest2, Pico, Realwear or the next Jio Device, we are all set to adopt them and start solving problems. The same holds true for our XR development platform choices as well. We keep customers’ problem at the centre and use the most suitable technology to solve it.

We were able to witness all this and more with the vibrant VRARA community in the recently concluded VRARA Global Summit. The event brought together the most intriguing and innovative leaders in immersive. Hardware developers, content creators, enterprises, manufacturers and designers gathered to learn, share and discuss advancements across various industries.

We were fortunate to be part of a panel discussion at VRARA along with Mr. Pradeep Khanna (VRARA) and Mr. Sune Buch Sloth (Rødovre Kommune) to discuss our wonderful experiences with VR Therapy. We discussed a topic close to our heart, ‘Social Inclusion using VR Therapy’ with a very engaging audience, shared our learnings, addressed business and functional challenges while we laid out the future of such incredible solutions.

Weeks after this incredible event, we were also part of Jio Tesseract’s VRARA Mumbai Chapter launch. The event was a remarkable showcase presenting open discussions with thought leaders, innovators, and pioneers in immersive leading the vision of formulating XR in the business strategy.

The panel discussion was centered on the XR business ecosystem, its facets, trends, and challenges along with our experiences. Pradeep Khanna Executive Director VRARA APAC, moderated the panel where value propositions and insights were shared by Ashwin D'Silva - CIO, Accenture, Gulshan Purswani - Delivery Head, Robert Bosch Engineering & Business Solutions, and Manish Mehan - CEO and MD, TKE India.

"There are numerous opportunities to scale up and innovate when you integrate extended reality into your business strategy today." - Gulshan Purswani

While more and more enterprises are transferring their projects focused customer experience, training, remote collaboration/management, product development, etc., into immersive platforms and solutions like AR/VR or MR. Understanding the vision and perceived benefits of immersive tech is also understanding how it will impact enterprises and our daily lives over the course of the subsequent years.
